Announcing New Pastor

We are overjoyed to announce Pinehaven Presbyterian Church PCA has voted unanimously to call Reverend Allen Michael Stanton to serve as pastor, effective October 2017.

Pastor Stanton is a native of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Troy University. He then attended Reformed Theological Seminary in Oviedo, Florida, and graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 2009 and followed up with a Masters of Theology in Historical Theology in 2011. He is currently a PhD candidate in Historical Theology through Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He comes to us from Waynesboro Presbyterian Church PCA where he served as senior pastor for the past 6 years. Before that he served as Professor of Bible at Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He has also served as a pastoral intern at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Deland, Florida.

Of great interest to him are the Reformation and John Calvin, as well as North American Presbyterianism, its 19th century beacon Princeton Seminary and the historical figures it produced such as: Samuel Miller, Archibald Alexander, Charles Hodge, A.A. Hodge and B. B. Warfield. He has been published in The Confessional Presbyterian, The Journal of Presbyterian History, and The Puritan Reformed Journal.

Allen’s wife, Lindsay, is from Eufaula, Alabama. They are the parents of three children: Hanna, Samuel and Andrew. They will be residing in Clinton, Mississippi.

Pastor Stanton’s first Sunday preaching for us will be October 15th. His installation service will be held Sunday, November 19, during evening worship and will be followed by a reception in his honor and for the purpose of welcoming him and his family to this ministry.

We welcome everyone to join us for this special occasion in the life of our church

“But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.” (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13)

Built for His Glory

As the saying goes… better late than never! Yes, this post is way over due but nonetheless significant. After almost a decade of praying and donating, the building began! God provided in ways we couldn’t even have imagined. Our members young and old (and a few friends) volunteered and labored alongside the professionals hired to construct our facility. When all was complete, we moved into our new church facility and began worshipping together as a fellowship known as Pinehaven Presbyterian Church in Clinton, Mississippi. It was a blessing to come together as one to build this facility — and it continues to be a blessing to come together as one to worship our Almighty God.

12522943_942478319133862_5096709500873656336_n

Be sure to mark January 29 on your new 2016 calendars for the upcoming men’s rally held every year at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, MS. This is a regional multi-generational evening of worship and fellowship after a meal together. The highlight of the rally is strong expository preaching and the rich sound of more than 1000 men’s voices singing praises to God. Invite your fathers, sons, grandsons, neighbors, coworkers. Events begins at 5:15Pm — and it’s free! (There will be an opportunity to make a donation if you would like to do so.)

This year’s speaker will be Dr. Douglas F. Kelly who serves as the Richard Jordan Professor of Theology at Reformed Theological Seminar in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dr. Kelly is dear to the congregation of Pinehaven Presbyterian Church from the days when he preached many sermons in our pulpit.

Dr. Kelly received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Diploma from the University of Lyon, his B.D. from the Union Theological Seminary, and his Ph. D. from the University of Edinburgh. He is the author of many written works including, If God Already Knows, Why Pray?, Preachers with Power: Four Stalwarts of the South, New Life in the Wasteland, Creation and Change, and The Emergence of Liberty in the Modern World. His firm grasp of multiple languages and his theological competence are capably demonstrated in translating such works as Sermons by John Calvin on II Samuel. He is serving with David Wright of the University of Edinburgh as a general editor for a revision of Calvin’s Old Testament Commentaries. Before joining the faculty at RTS, Dr. Kelly travelled extensively throughout the world preaching and teaching. He was also enlisted to serve on the Jurisprudence project of The Christian Legal Society and serves on the Credentials Committee of the Central Carolina Presbytery.

No advance registration is necessary and there is no charge for the dinner. Dinner will be served at 5:15 p.m. followed by the first session at 6:30 p.m. If you have questions or need more information, please contact Gabe Fluhrer gabef@fpcjackson.org

Church Work Day

Work dayA couple of workdays have been planned for this coming Friday and Saturday at the nearly completed Pinehaven Presbyterian Church. We are down to crunch time and need many hands on deck this coming weekend. We are asking all members, men and women, to please carve out some time from your weekend to stop by and lend a helping hand so we can quickly get the facility move-in ready.

You don’t have to worry about knowing what to do! There will be a punch sheet posted in most every room. The basic list is comprised of such things as removing stickers from windows, cleaning windows, dusting, cleaning countertops, sinks, baseboards, etc.

Some supplies will be on site.  However, to best guarantee you have what you need to work with, we have listed below some items you might want to bring with you if you have them.  If you don’t have any but are willing to help, come anyway!  Someone will share their supplies with you.
We also need help outdoors.  The flower beds need to be weeded before putting pinestraw out.  Some plants need to be replanted because they have shifted and are now leaning.  The driveways and sidewalks need to be cleaned off.
Good news: the bathrooms should be in working order before Friday!

Suggestion of Tools & Supplies to bring if you have them:Dusting

Dusting Cloths

Cleaning Rags
Paper Towels (cheap ones clean windows with less lint)

Scraper (to remove stickers from windows)

Step Ladder (we have some tall windows)

Newspapers (cleans windows lint-free)

Granite Cleaner

Stainless Cleaner

Window Cleaner

Shovel (to replant shrubs that have shifted)

Hand-held blower (to blow off driveway and sidewalks)

Broom

Dust Pan

Vacuum Cleaner

Clean Carpets

Construction Update July 8

Hallway

The construction of Pinehaven Presbyterian Church is going very well.  All of the sheetrock is up, sheetrock finishing is nearly complete,  painters are working, trim carpenters are building cabinets, and electricians are starting to install some of their equipment.  The major critical path items such as interior doors, major electrical gear, light fixtures, and HVAC fixtures are all on order.  Hopefully in a few weeks, we will have a more clear picture of progress and be able to predict completion.  Everyone please know that your prayers and giving for this project are needed and appreciated.

Thank You,

Mark Welch

Construction Update June 13

Sanctuary

The construction of Pinehaven Presbyterian Church is in full swing.  The building committee is meeting on the site 6-13-13 to make some decisions about several items. At this time the insulation is done, sheetrock is being hung and finished, and the porte co ceiling is being closed in.  I am in the process of ordering many things like doors, light fixtures, paint, HVAC fixtures, etc.  The progress is full throttle.

Thank You,

Mark Welch
