Pinehaven Presbyterian Church is a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ located in Clinton, Mississippi. In all aspects of our lives, we seek to glorify God and share His grace with one another and the wider world.
Pinehaven Presbyterian Church offers plentiful opportunities for worship, discipleship, fellowship, and outreach, guided by the Word of God. Whether you are new to the Christian faith or a lifelong believer, we warmly invite you to make this congregation your church home.
What we believe
Pinehaven Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). As Bible-believing Christians and as members of this denomination, we believe the Word of God, rather than tradition, is the only guide for church government and teachings.
Like all members of this denomination, we believe Scripture calls us to put our faith in action through evangelism, Christian education, and preparing for ministry in a world of need. This approach to Christian life has also been called the Reformed Faith.
We Believe
We believe the best summary of what the Scriptures teach is found in the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Larger Catechism (Part 1 Part 2), and the Shorter Catechism. Every pastor, elder, and deacon in our congregation is required to subscribe to these documents and teach in accord with them.
We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.
We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe that all are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God’s displeasure, except by His mercy.
We believe that salvation is by God alone as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.
We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His Covenant promises.
We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.
We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people to Himself.
We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
The Sacraments
We practice the two sacraments that Christ instituted for the church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
We believe the Lord’s Supper is not just for members of our congregation, but for all baptized members in good standing of any church where the gospel of Christ is proclaimed. In accordance with Scripture, we believe we should carefully examine our hearts before partaking, to avoid bringing judgment on ourselves. We believe we come to the table not by our own merit, but through the work of Jesus.
We believe baptism is the sacrament of initiation into the covenant people of God. Because the covenant promise is to us and our children (Gen. 17:7), we baptize both adults who profess faith in Christ and their children.
what to expect
We look forward to meeting you! We hope that your experience with us will be one of warm fellowship, joyful worship, and a sense of God’s presence and grace.
What do people wear?
Although we know that “man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart,” it may make you feel more comfortable to know our members typically dress up for morning worship. Some prefer polo shirts and khakis, others wear suits. Some wear skirts and dresses while others choose pants and blouses. For the evening worship service, dress is casual.
What is the worship service like?
At Pinehaven Presbyterian Church, you can expect a traditional worship style. The morning service is more formal, and the evening service is less formal.
As we strive to be “faithful to the Scriptures,” our service is meant to be God-centered, reverent, and follow God’s outline for Christian worship found in the New Testament. It involves the reading and preaching of Scripture, prayer, singing of psalms and hymns, sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and offerings.
Our music, primarily, is congregational singing of hymns from the Trinity Psalter Hymnal (www.trinitypsalterhymnal.org/) accompanied by organ or piano. While we don’t have a full-time choir, there is special music on occasion.
Is there a nursery?
Yes, there is a nursery for the Sunday morning worship service. That said, children are welcome to join all services with their families.
What do you have for older children?
Elementary age children have their own Sunday School class at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings.
High School students are invited to join the Adult Sunday School Class at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings.
The Kids Book Club meets on Wednesday evenings during our weekly Prayer Meeting & Meal at 6:30 p.m. (the meal is immediately before, at 5:45 p.m.).
What happens when, and where?
- Our church is housed in one building with a sanctuary, fellowship hall, church offices and Sunday School classrooms under one roof. It’s accessible for everyone, and easy to get around!
- Sunday School classes for all ages begin at 9:30 a.m. A greeter will gladly help you find the right room.
- Our morning worship service is at 10:45 in the sanctuary. We also hope you will be able to stay around for a while after the service to visit with us!
- On the first Sunday of the month, you are invited to join us for a meal together in the Fellowship Hall after morning worship.
- There is no evening service on First Sundays, but otherwise the evening service is at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.
- If you know you will be visiting ahead of time, please give us a call during the week before and we would be glad to arrange for you to have lunch with a family in the church!
Is every Sunday service the same?
Although our services follow a similar pattern each week, there are some special days to keep in mind:
- On the first Sunday of the month, we have a meal together after morning worship, and you are invited!
- There is no evening service on First Sundays, but otherwise, the evening service is at 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.
- We celebrate the Lord’s Supper during the morning service on the second Lord’s Day of each month. This sacrament is not just for members of this church, but for all baptized members in good standing of any church where the gospel of Christ is proclaimed. According to Scripture, we should carefully examine our hearts before partaking. We come to the table not by our own merit, but through the work of Jesus.
